During the week of August 6-10, Mel Fields of AdSTM participated in an IAEA consultancy meeting at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The objective of the meeting was to review the draft training materials developed by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) for two IAEA-sponsored workshops for countries embarking on nuclear power programs. These two workshops were the workshop on Safety Regulations and the workshop on Human Resource Development (HRD) of Regulatory Body and Use of External Support Organizations.
This meeting was a follow-up meeting to the one held at the Vienna IAEA offices on February 20-24, 2012, whose objectives were to 1) establish the guidelines for developing IAEA-sponsored workshops for countries embarking on nuclear power programs, and 2) identify the organizations that would be responsible for developing these workshops. The focus of these workshops is to strengthen technical and managerial competences of the regulatory bodies within these countries.
