During the week of April 7-11, 2014, Dr. Charles Miller, AdSTM and Danielle Emche, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a Consultation/Workshop in Malaysia. The purpose of the trip was to advise in the development of an independent nuclear regulator governance approach that could replace the existing structure. A series of meetings took place where information was shared about the structure, workings practices and independence of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission NRC as a model for Malaysia to consider, as they finalize a draft comprehensive nuclear law to be submitted to their parliament this year. Malaysia is strongly considering a nuclear power option that would necessitate the need for a strong independent regulatory authority to be in place in the next few years.
