From February 21-25, David Squarer and Mihaela Biro of AdSTM led a Siting Workshop at the BAPETEN offices in Jakarta, Indonesia. Bob Schaaf from NRC/NRO participated and shared NRC perspectives with those in attendance. BAPETEN expects to receive an application for a site license in the 2014. The application will be preceded by a two year site evaluation process which is expected to consider the characteristics of 3 sites now being considered for placing the first nuclear power plant in Indonesia. A Construction Permit Workshop was conducted with VARANS, the nuclear regulator in Vietnam, by Gene Imbro, Weidong He, and Scott Newberry of the AdSTM staff from February 14-18, 2011. A Nuclear Executive Workshop was held in Amman, Jordan for the staff and leadership of the Jordanian Nuclear Regulatory Commission (JNRC) from January 16 – 19, 2011. In November 2010, members of AdSTM staff presented training to the Armenian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ANRA) and the Armenian Nuclear and Radiation Safety Centre (NRSC) as part of the NRC sponsored International Reactor Development Partnership. The workshop held October 18-21, 2010, was hosted by the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) of South Africa. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) of the Kingdom of Thailand held a workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 28 to 30, on best ways to regulate the location of nuclear power plants in that country. The OAP is Thailand's regulatory authority for the production and use of nuclear energy and radioactive materials. NRC staff and support contractors traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam to present training and hold discussions with the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS).
