Mark Shaffer (NRC/OIP Deputy Director) and Sergey Katsenelenbogen (AdSTM) visited NNR during January 27-28, 2014. The US delegation met with Dr. M. “Bismark” Tyobeka (Chief Executive Officer at NNR), Mr. Orion Phillips (Senior Manager: Standards, Authorizations, Reviews & Assessments), Mr. Thabo Tselane (Senior Manager: Compliance Assurance & Enforcement), Mr. Gino Moonsamy (Manager: Communications & Stakeholder Relations), and Dr. Peter Mkhabela (Functional Coordinator: Design Safety). The discussions assessed workshops conducted by IRDP in 2013 and addressed potential areas of collaboration including Human Resource Development at NNR, power uprate and steam generator replacement at Koeberg NPP, development of new regulations, regulatory expansion associated with potential new power capacity, and NNR staff training. The visit was coincidental with the workshop on “Reactor Power Uprate” delivered by IRDP for NNR technical staff from headquarters and inspection personnel stationed at the plant.
