Siting Application Review Workshop for Office of Atoms for Peace, Bangkok, Thailand

May 1st, 2017 —

AdSTM conducted a Siting Application Review Workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 17 to April 21, 2017. The workshop was attended by 11 members of the Office of Atoms for Peace for Thailand. Mr. Richard Emch of AdSTM and Mr. Stewart Bland of Chesapeake Nuclear Services conducted the workshop. The workshop presented the USNRC’s methodology for conducting the review of an application for an early site permit or a construction permit using the guidance of NUREG-0800 (the Standard Review Plan). The workshop included an interactive exercise where the participants were challenged to use the USNRC methodology to review the impact of flooding from cascading dam failures for the Vogtle Early Site Permit application. The differences in requirements for power reactor siting and research reactor siting were also discussed using NUREG-1537, “Guidelines for Preparing and Reviewing Applications for the Licensing of Non-Power Reactors: Standard Review Plan and Acceptance Criteria.”
